Lichen Collection with the Calgary Zoo

On October 4, 2025, we did our second lichen collection with the Calgary Zoo for their resident caribou. Despite the seasons first snowfall arriving just as we set out, everyone's spirits stayed high - and we managed to gather an impressive amount of lichen. A special thank you to Jane McDonald for joining us and offering a heartfelt prayer to start us off in a good way.

From October 24-26, 2025, our group headed to Calgary with additional lichen that was collected as enrichment for the zoo's caribou. We had the wonderful opportunity to meet the caribou close up, learn more about them and other North American wildlife through a guided tour, and then explore the zoo in smaller groups. Though it was a smaller team this time around compared to our initial trip in May 2022, the trip was a great success and

everyone had a fantastic time!
